FOSCI’s staff and families joined the Survivors Speak Florida event on April 1-2, 2019 in Tallahassee, Florida to speak to legislative leadership.
FOSCI hopes Tallahassee legislative leadership will realize that families impacted by violence are more than names in the obituaries. Jacksonville, FL has seen crime rise and fall over the years, but the homicide rate has remained steady since 2010 as Jacksonville known as the 904 leads the country in homicides per 100K. Families most effeced are those living in the poorest communities. We are dedicated to changing the current statistics.
From 2016-2018, 389 homicides were committed in Jacksonville with 79 or 20% in the 32209 zip code. Despite the large number of businesses and resources it continues to be one of Jacksonville, FL poorest community clusters. FOSCI is working with local and state government leadership to make changes. FOSCI services to families impacted by homicide are available in Northeast Florida. All lives mean something to us; and we are continuing our efforts to build a community of support and awareness of the devastation of homicide.
